I am inspired by the places I have lived – primarily, the West’s mountains and valleys, arid red rock, plateaus, and canyons, the maritime Northwest, and the richly agricultural Willamette Valley. I search for the essence of place, particular and universal, as it filters through my experience and memory. I work in both monotype (a printmaking medium) and oil painting, which support each other in my creative process. Monotype provides a vehicle for spontaneous exploration and painting provides the opportunity for deeper development and evolution of a work.
I have had solo shows of my artwork, been in many juried shows, received awards for my work and served as juror for Oregon’s 1% for Art projects. I hold degrees in environmental design, architecture and Spanish. More of my work can be seen at my website www.dorenesteggell.com
