Dan Cannon was born in Seattle, Washington and, after serving in the Army in Korea, he returned and received the Bachelor and Master degrees from the University of Washington. He taught in Junior and Senior high schools in Seattle and at the University of Washington. He then taught at San Jose State University while completing his doctorate at Stanford University. He and his wife, Gail raised four daughters together. Gail passed away from cancer after 38 years of marriage. The
Dan & Gail Cannon Gallery of Art at Western Oregon Univery is named in her memory. Dan came to Western Oregon University (then Oregon College of Education) as Chairman of the Art Department where he served for 30 years. He also served as Executive Director of the Alliance for Arts Education at the Kennedy Center and as Executive Director of the National Art Education Association, as a Fulbright Scholar in Thailand and on the City Council in Monmouth and two terms as President of the Central School District Board.of Directors, two as President.
